Edwin R. Saavedra is a senior business and technology executive operating at the intersection of automotive innovation, artificial intelligence, digital finance, healthcare technology, and enterprise transformation. He currently serves as Chief AI Officer at ToyosaโCrown and Chief Executive Officer of Kaizen Motors, where he leads enterprise-wide initiatives focused on lean operations, digital transformation, AI-driven business optimization, and the adoption of next-generation financial technologies within the automotive industry.
With more than two decades of leadership experience across Toyota Motor Corporationโaligned ecosystems and leading automotive enterprises in Latin America, Edwin has built a distinguished track record in operational excellence, after-sales transformation, ERP implementation, customer experience optimization, and data-driven decision architecture. During his tenure at TOYOSA Bolivia, he successfully led nationwide ERP deployment programs integrating parts, service, CRM, finance, and business analytics, significantly improving operational visibility, process efficiency, and enterprise-wide decision-making.
A finance professional by training, Edwin earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Bentley University before completing his MBA at the MIT Sloan School of Management, specializing in Business Analytics and Artificial Intelligence. He further strengthened his expertise through advanced executive certifications in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence from MIT Professional Education, equipping him to bridge emerging technologies with practical industrial applications.
At ToyosaโCrown, Edwin has become a driving force behind the organization’s AI transformation strategy. He is spearheading the development and deployment of agentic AI systems designed to automate and optimize customer engagement, operational workflows, and business intelligence. Among his flagship initiatives is the creation of LEO, an AI-powered virtual service agent that automates customer communication, appointment scheduling, CRM management, and after-sales support across WhatsApp and web-based platforms. His philosophy positions artificial intelligence not as a standalone technology, but as an operational layer embedded directly into every critical business process, enabling organizations to become more intelligent, efficient, and customer-centric.
Beyond artificial intelligence, Edwin has emerged as one of Latin America’s leading advocates for digital financial innovation within the automotive industry. During Bolivia’s severe economic contraction and foreign currency crisis, which resulted in an acute shortage of U.S. dollars, he led one of the region’s most pioneering payment transformation initiatives. Under his leadership, Toyosa and Crown became the first automotive companies in Latin Americaโand among the first globallyโto implement stablecoin payments at scale for vehicles, spare parts, and after-sales services.
Recognizing the need for an alternative payment infrastructure, Edwin oversaw the integration of USDโฎ (Tether) payments across five blockchain networks using a simple QR-code-based payment system, enabling customers to complete transactions that were secure, fast, and seamless despite the country’s foreign exchange constraints. This landmark initiative was delivered through a strategic alliance with BitGo, Tether, and Towerbank, creating an institutional-grade payment ecosystem that bridges traditional finance with blockchain technology. The solution not only addressed immediate economic challenges but also established a new benchmark for how digital assets can be integrated into mainstream automotive commerce.
In addition to his work in automotive and fintech innovation, Edwin has expanded his impact into healthcare through the application of artificial intelligence. Following his completion of both the Foundations and Advanced Machine Learning programs at MIT Professional Education, he collaborated with Sergio David Coronado Gutiรฉrrez to introduce Mirai, an AI-powered breast cancer risk prediction system, to Bolivia. The initiative began with deployment at Clรญnica de Las Amรฉricas and is being developed in collaboration with the Bolivian government to expand access to AI-assisted early breast cancer detection across the country’s public healthcare system. This work reflects Edwin’s commitment to applying cutting-edge artificial intelligence beyond commercial environments to generate meaningful social and public health impact.
Edwin is also a respected thought leader in industrial AI and digital transformation, frequently emphasizing that sustainable automation begins with standardized, optimized processes before technology is introduced. His work explores the convergence of artificial intelligence, robotics, cloud computing, blockchain, and advanced analytics as the foundation of next-generation automotive manufacturing, retail, mobility, and digital commerce ecosystems.
Beyond his executive leadership, Edwin actively contributes to regional innovation and education as the MIT Regional Ambassador for Bolivia, where he supports technology transfer, executive education, and initiatives that expand access to emerging technologies throughout Latin America. Through his leadership across AI, enterprise transformation, blockchain-enabled finance, and healthcare innovation, Edwin continues to shape the future of intelligent mobility and modern commerce while championing the responsible application of artificial intelligence to solve complex business and societal challenges.
